As any Wisconsin motorist is likely aware, there are many laws of the road to pay attention to. Violating even a seemingly minor law can have major consequences. This is why motorists need to be aware of the rules of the road and make every effort not to break them. When motorists violate one of these laws and a car accident occurs that results in someone’s death, the families of victims have rights. They may wish to pursue legal action against the driver who is suspected to have caused the accident.
A recent accident in Wisconsin had tragic consequences. According to reports, a driver traveling north on a Wisconsin county road entered an intersection, striking a car driven by an 81-year-old man. Following this, the 81-year-old man was transported to a nearby hospital. He was thought to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Sadly, this initial diagnosis was found to be false. He later died in the hospital.
Though authorities did not yet release a cause of death, a medical examiner believed that blunt force head trauma caused by the crash led to the man’s tragic passing. Following the crash, the driver who entered the intersection and struck the 81-year-old man’s vehicle was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way, as well as failure to stop at a stop sign.
When drivers break one of the rules of the road, they may be found negligent. Family members who have lost loved ones in car accidents often wish to hold such drivers accountable for their actions. Pursuing a wrongful death lawsuit and proving the other driver’s negligence can be a way of doing so. What’s more, a successful lawsuit can also allow the families of victims to obtain monetary compensation. Compensation can help alleviate the financial burdens placed on them.
