Richard focuses his practice on personal injury cases and also handles labor law matters. Richard represents the Independent Employees Union at Hillshire Farm Company, Inc., the Banta Book Group Maintenance Department, and Local Union 78T: Voith Fabrics. Richard’s working knowledge and understanding of municipal laws and codes along with his trial experience and comfort in the courtroom served him well in his role as the lead prosecutor and Town Attorney for a prominent local municipality for over 20 years.

Richard has handled complex litigation matters in front of both the Wisconsin Supreme Court and Wisconsin Court of Appeals, including oral arguments in front of each court. He was appointed by the Wisconsin Supreme Court to serve three terms on the District Committee of the Office of Lawyer Regulation, which oversees the ethical and professional conduct of all attorneys admitted to practice within the State of Wisconsin.

Richard has consistently been named a Wisconsin “Super Lawyer” for years, placing him in the top 5% of all attorneys in Wisconsin. He was recently honored as one of the Top 100 Litigation Lawyers in the State of Wisconsin by the American Society of Legal Advocates. Fox Cities Magazine rates Richard a “Premium Pick” in personal injury and worker’s compensation law. Richard was recently recognized and honored by the National Association of Distinguished Counsel as one of the “Nation’s Top One Percent of Attorneys.”

Richard is a member of the Wisconsin Association for Justice (formerly the Wisconsin Association of Trial Lawyers) and has been elected to the organization’s Board of Governors. Richard has served WAJ as a Program Committee Chairperson, which allowed him to oversee the Continuing Legal Education Seminars for trial lawyers across the state. Richard’s dedicated involvement with the Wisconsin Association for Justice also allows him the opportunity to maintain a working knowledge of legislative changes and proposed legislation that affect his clients’ rights.

Richard is a very active member of the Fox Valley community, having served as President of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, holding multiple positions with United Way Fox Cities, as well as serving on the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Finance Committee at First United Methodist Church. Richard, his wife, Polly, and their three children like to spend their free time in Door County, enjoying the outdoors.

Richard is always a straight shooter looking out for his clients’ rights and best interests. I’ve had the privilege of using Richard for two previous injury cases and I’ve been very happy with the outcome of each. I’d highly recommend Richard for your Personal Injury needs and Herrling Clark Law Firm in general as I also use them for my business.

Richard is well respected in the community. During mediation, both the mediator and the other attorney made comments to the effect that “having Richard Elrod” gave credence to my lawsuit. Always prepared for meetings. In the times I couldn’t think straight, he was understanding and supportive giving me wise counsel. He always made me feel safe.

Richard represented me for a car accident I had while I was working. He made me feel comfortable because he kept me informed in what was going on in my case each step of the way and explained things to me in a way I could understand. Richard was knowledgeable in both work comp and personal injury. I appreciated his patience and knowing that someone was in my corner. Given the success I had, I would highly recommend Richard.

From the moment that I met Richard in September 2009, I felt at ease. This meeting was only three weeks after my accident. Richard and his staff were always readily available for support and compassion regarding the components of my disability. I would recommend Richard; a ’10 out of 10′!

Richard is honest, trustworthy, and easy to work with. He made me feel at ease regarding my case and I never had to question his work. He never told me that I would make a lot of money, just gave me all the facts right from the beginning. I would highly recommend Richard to anyone!
